We're part of one more big food truck event this year, but this one won't take place at the brewery... it'll be INDOORS at Bella Doma featuring 15 food trucks, a full bar and of course Z beers! Don't miss this event on Friday, November 30 from 11am-10pm. Bella Doma is located at 28 S. Hamilton Rd in Whitehall with plenty of free parking.

Food Truck Elections

Early November is the time to cast your vote... for your favorite food trucks!

Participating food trucks include The Cheesy Truck, Sophie's Pierogies, That Food Truck, Tatoheads, Pitabillities, Ajumama, Blu Olive, Paddy Wagon, Swoop Food Truck, Green Meanie and My Place or Yours!

Join us on Friday, November 3 from 4-9pm to enjoy great local grub and a Z Beer or two! We'll have Roggen Rye and Stodgy Brown available early, and tap Buxom Blonde, Myopic Red and Vertigo when those run out. Barley's Brewing will be teaming up with us again to pour a beer or two of their own.

Burger Wars October 5

No, Luke, I am not your father. But Zauber IS the "father" of Burger Wars. (Aaaaand that's enough bad Star Wars jokes for one blog post.)

Our next big food truck event will take place Friday, October 5 from 4-9pm and this one's got a theme. Food trucks Hungry Monkey, Street Thyme, That Food Truck, Paddywagon, Oh Burger, Tatoheads and Swoop Food Group will compete for the titles of best burger in Columbus and most creative burger.

We will be pouring pints for the occasion - beers still to be determined (we'll update this post and of course let you know on Facebook and Twitter when we decide!)

May the best burger win!

FRIDAY Night Live September 7

Our "Saturday Night Live" event was so successful that we're doing it again, this time on Friday, September 7! Stop by the brewery for a ton of awesome food trucks and one awesome brewery!

From 4-9:30pm enjoy 10 different food trucks, including Hungry Monkey, Swoop Food Group, Ajumama, Sophie's Pierogie, PerZoot, The Cheesy Truck, Street Thyme, Green Meanie, Blu Olive and Tatoheads.

We'll also be serving beer by the pint for you to enjoy here! Please note that due to our permit for the event we won't be selling growlers that night.

Zauber Updates 6/11/12

We have been BUSY! You may have seen us over the weekend at Park Street Festival, or at The Spruce Campbells album/beer launch party where we brought a limited release Belgian IPA called Berzerker.

And this Saturday 6/16 you can catch us at Digfest in Grandview where we will be pouring Stodgy Brown and Vertigo.

And of course, you can stop by from 4-8p every Thursday, Friday and Saturday to grab a growler to-go. This week we will have VERY limited quantities of Berzerker (expect it to be gone Thursday!) as well as Stodgy Brown. We'll tap Myopic Red when the IPA runs out.

Growler sales start this weekend

Starting this Thursday, May 10, we will be holding regular open hours at the brewery for growler sales!

Every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 4-8pm you will be able to stop in and fill up a growler to take home and enjoy. In case you are among the uninitiated, a growler is a half gallon glass container used to transport beer fresh from the keg.

We'll have two different Z Beers available at a time - which, for now, will be Buxom Blonde and Stogy Brown.

Stodgy Brown, Germal Alt
Stodgy is old-fashioned unduly formal and traditional, robust in food. So old its seen again with fresh eyes as new again. This German beer style is much older and traditional than even Lagers. What all beers must have tasted like before modern times. Its character is a hybrid of ale, lagers a pleasant match of the best of both styles. Great Everyday brown Alt, like so many from the Ruhr valley. Hopped aggressively like a pale ale, brown in color.
5.2% ABV, 38 IBU

Buxom Blonde, Belgian Blonde
A buxom-blonde named Abby, Healthy Attractive, Vigiours, Zaftig, Full Figured, Curvaceous, ample bodied... all those things. This Belgian Abby style is well proportioned, soft, and beautiful like the name suggests. Nice fruity tones, to compliment this beers body, and healthily hoped and well proportioned.
5.5% ABV, 30 IBU

We're also continuing to operate our food truck pod each weekend, so you can visit us for lunch and stop back after work for dinner and a jug of Zauber to-go.

Food Truck Pod Opens April 26

The Zauber Brewing Co parking lot will soon be home to Grandview's first food truck pod!

Starting on Thursday, April 26th, we will be host to some of Columbus' awesome local food trucks from 11am-2pm and 4-8pm every Thursday, Friday and Saturday to satiate your lunch and dinner cravings.

And during opening weekend we'll be giving out samples of Z Beers to the first 10 people who grab a bite during each Food Truck Pod shift!

Here is the line up for our inaugural food pod weekend:

We hope to begin selling growlers in mid-May so you'll be able to grab some Z beer to-go while you're here stuffing your face. We'll keep you posted on the blog and our Twitter and Facebook pages.

We will add more trucks and shifts as demand increases. Zauber Brewing is located at 1300 Norton Ave, between Third and Fifth avenues in Grandview.

Zauber Beer Tour

Zauber Brewing is finally a reality, and we want to give you a chance to try all of our beers before we start serving them to the masses.

Each Tuesday and Wednesday for the next three weeks, you can try our initial lineup of year-round brews at various bars around Columbus. Stop by Tip Top tonight to try Myopic Red, our German Red Alt, and pick up a postcard to take to the rest of the stops on the tour - get a stamp at each bar for trying all of our beers and you'll earn a Zauber t-shirt and tap handle, plus be entered into a drawing for a free sixth barrel keg!

Tip Top Kitchen and Cocktails
Myopic Red, German Red Alt
To be myopic is to struggle to see distant objects because of objects right in front of us. This is inspired by our local culture, passion, and > attachment to our home town University & Sports teams in Columbus. Often making us unable to see blue and yellow together clearly. > This 'nutty' Red old school Ale is a great everyday beer, after one taste, not requiring us to look any further, particularly north.
5.0% ABV, 16 IBU

Village Idiot Tavern
Vertigo, a Hefeweizen, German Style
Vertigo is a condition when the world gets a bit cloudy, fuzzy if only for a little while... just like a Hefeweizen. Tasting notes: Vanilla, Banana-Clove notes, yellow in color, cloudy in complexion, smooth and light in body. Great Spring/Summer flavor.
5.4% ABV,12 IBU

Tuesday, April 3

The Jury Room
Magnum Opus, Belgian Copper Ale
Latin for 'Great work'. It is also an alchemical method in the creation of the Philosopher's stone, or the ultimate wisdom. This beer is inspired by the great beers of Belgium, in particular the Trappist beers. Our goal was to create a beer in this spirit in our quest for wisdom. This well proportioned Belgian is pleasant and fruity, Copper to Brown in color and mildly hopped.
5.4% ABV, 23 IBU

Wednesday, April 4

Each bar will have a limited quantity of Z Beers during the tour, so be sure to get there as close to the tapping date as possible for your chance to try our brews before everyone else and get some Zauber swag. And even if you don't make it to all of the stops, a partially stamped postcard will still get you a Zauber magnet!

Zauber founder and brewmaster Geoff Towne will be at the release night for each bar, so be sure to say hello!

Legalization Day!

As of this morning we were issued our A1: Licence to Brew!

After a couple more snafu's we finally are free and clear to begin to legally make beer and to sell it to the public.

We are starting to brew asap. Which means in about a month we will have beer to sell. Can't wait. PROST!

Building Inspections done

Earlier today we finally passed our 'fiinal building inspection'.

After much delay, and a small bit of frustration, we are now free and clear of our building requirements for reconstructing our little space.

Next step is to move our equipment in and then to call for our final Alcohol inspection. Then we wait....

Construction, Construction, Everywhere

With our Building Permit in place we have been working ourselves to the bone to get our first phase finished.

After close inspection with Architecture and Contractors we found that we had to tare down and rebuild our interior space to make it suitable to pass building inspection. Not quite as scary as it sounds...

With just a couple weeks work left. Our goal is to get things started as soon as we can. Our goal is to be able to sell beer soon after the beginning of the new year.

Tap Handles have arrived!

After close to a year of developing our signature design, our first batch of Tap Handles have arrived for use. We can't wait to show them off!

Thanks goes out to the gang at Cobego Designs llc for their diligent work to bring this design to a fruition. In particular Cory Roth, who worked side by side with us to find our cool new design, and all other team members who had a hand in our humble project. PROST!

Barely Legal

The TTB has given us the go ahead for our first phase.

The Federal Bureau of Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade or TTB is the governing body that oversees the Alcohol industry. We just received confirmation that our Brewers Notice has been approved! This is the federal licence that is needed in order to start making beer legally.

For us this is one of the larger hurdles that we needed to pass in order start brewing.

Now we are just down to finishing construction and being approved by the State of OH (which needs to inspect a finished brewery before they can issue their licence). Cheers

Turning a Warehouse into a Brewery

We have been working diligently to transform our space into an appropriate working al be it small brewery. The beginning of sweat equity ;)

Until you actually go through the process it is hard to believe all the little things that go into bringing a brewery together. Utilities, Tests, Contractors, Networking, Financing, LOTS of legal papers all coming together at once. It helps that we all believe that we are on to something cool, and want to bring a new beer voice to Columbus. The fringe benefits are cool too... Cheers

Working our way toward Legalization

We have been working with our the Ohio Division of Liquor control and the Federal TTB to submit the appropriate paperwork to legalize our Brewery space.

Both local reps have been very helpful and supportive to help guide our way through the large amount of information needed to varify our intent to Brew, and to check on our background to make sure that we have the ability to build the business, and the lack of a sketch record. It has been a huge learning experience and we are pleased that things are going well. The process takes about 2 to 3 months. Cant wait. Cheers.

Our new location is official...

I received the keys to our new place today. Our new location is 1300 Norton Ave. Columbus, OH.

This new location is a big step forward toward our goal.
This place is near Grandview Hts, in a warehouse type building between 5th and 3rd Ave.
Now we wait for government approval. Are we supposed to be so giddy about bureaucracy?

With the results we hope is to support/discredit our assumptions about who drinks what type of beer and what they like to eat along with their brews. The Results will help direct some of our decisions down the road.
Check back in a couple weeks, or when we reach a minimum of 250 people, and we will share our results. 'Cant Wait...' ;)
